Officers mentioned they were contacted by a man who discovered a car in Hanau covered with red-colored substance

Around fifty automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a statement.

Officers state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.

The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.

Officers then located multiple other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Police report preliminary tests suggest the liquid was likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; authorities are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.

Local authorities announced they were working "to solve the incident" and have asked to the public for information.

A senior political figure said the vandalism rendered him stunned and required to be solved rapidly.

"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing attack in 2020," he posted on online, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
